Baby Cabled Hat.
4ply yarn use 2.75mm (UK 12 ) and 3.25 (UK 10 ) needles.
Cable needle.
Dk. yarn use 3.25 (UK 10 ) and 4mm. (UK 8 ) needles. Cable needle.
Abbreviations. C6F slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of
work, K3, then K3 from
cable needle.
C4F slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and leave at front of work, K2, then
K2 from
cable needle.
Using smaller size needles cast on 60 sts.
Knit 6 rows 2x2 ribbing. ( knit 2 then purl 2 etc )
Change to larger size needles.
1st Row. * K2, P2, K6, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
2nd Row. * K2, P6, K2, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
3rd Row. * K2, P2, C6F, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
4th Row. * K2, P6, K2, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
From 1st to 4th row forms pattern. Repeat Rows 1 – 4 six times.
Shape Crown.
1st Row. * K2, P2, K1, K2tog, K2tog, K1, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.

2nd Row. * K2, P4, K2, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
3rd Row. * K2, P2tog, C4F, P2tog * Repeat from * to * 5 times. ( 40 sts )
4th Row. * K1, P4, K1, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
5th Row. * K2, P1, K2tog, K2tog, P1 * Repeat from * to * 5 times. ( 30 sts

6th Row. * K1, P2, K1, P2 * Repeat from * to * 5 times.
7th Row. * K2tog, P1, K2tog, P1 * Repeat from * to * 5 times. ( 20 sts )
8th Row. * P2tog * Repeat from * to * 5 times. ( 10 sts )
Knit 8 rows of stocking stitch on the remaining 10 sts. Leaving enough yarn to sew the side seam, cut yarn, thread through stitches and pull up tightly. Sew side seam.

Larger sizes.
Any size of hat can be made by increasing the number of stitches cast on by
multiples of 12 and increasing the number of repeats of the pattern rows 1
– 4
Decrease for crown as given but repeat from * to * according to number of
multiples of 12 cast on.
If you make the hat much larger – add extra rows to the 2x2 rib to keep
the proportions looking right.
Example larger size.
Cast on 84 sts. ( 7 x 12 )
Knit 8 rows 2x2 ribbing.
1st Row. * K2, P2, K6, P2 * Repeat from * to * 7 times.
2nd Row. * K2, P6, K2, P2 * Repeat from * to * 7 times.
3rd Row. * K2, P2, C6F, P2 * Repeat from * to * 7 times.
4th Row. * K2, P6, K2, P2 * Repeat from * to * 7 times.
From 1st to 4th row forms pattern. Repeat Rows 1 – 4 nine times.

Next row knit, decreasing evenly across row to 10 sts.
Knit a further 7 rows in stocking stitch. Leaving enough yarn to sew the side
seam, cut yarn, thread through stitches and pull up tightly. Sew side seam.
